Site Blocker privacy policy

Site Blocker helps you block websites you choose. It processes website domains and tab URLs locally to provide this feature. The extension runs without a developer-operated backend, account system, advertising, analytics, or telemetry. It does not transmit your block list or browsing activity to the developer or any third party.

Information handled locally

• Your block list: domains you type, add from the current tab, or import from a file. A pasted URL is reduced to a domain; its path, query, and fragment are not saved in the list.
• Your blocking preference: whether blocking is enabled or paused.
• Your privacy acknowledgement: whether you accepted the current version of the in-product privacy notice. Website URL processing and blocking start only after you choose Agree and start.
• Tab URLs: the current tab URL is used to offer the current-site shortcut. Open tab URLs are checked when blocking settings change so matching pages can be redirected immediately. The browser also matches navigation requests against your local blocking rules. These URLs are not saved as a browsing-history log.
• Imported and exported lists: the extension reads only the file you select for import. Export creates a JSON file containing the domains on your list. You decide where to save it and whether to share it.

The block list, blocking preference, and privacy acknowledgement are saved using the browser's local extension storage. Blocking rules are also stored locally by the browser. Site Blocker does not use browser sync or an external database. Each browser profile has its own list.

Purpose and permissions

The data is used only to add, display, search, import, export, remove, and block your selected websites, or to pause and resume blocking. Site Blocker uses local storage to remember your choices and the browser's declarative network request API to redirect matching HTTP and HTTPS page or frame requests to its blocked page. Website access lets these redirects work on the domains you choose and lets the extension check matching open tabs.

The extension does not read page contents, record keystrokes, read cookies or passwords, collect payment details, or request your name, email, or location. It contains no remote executable code.

Sharing, sale, and limited use

Site Blocker does not sell user data, share it for advertising, use it to determine creditworthiness, or allow the developer to view your local block list or tab URLs. The use of information obtained through browser APIs is limited to the website-blocking features described here and complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Choosing Export writes a file locally; it does not send that file to the developer. If you share an exported list yourself, the recipient can read the domains it contains.

Retention and your controls

Your list, blocking preference, and privacy acknowledgement remain in the browser until you change or remove them. You can inspect the list, remove individual domains, pause blocking, or uninstall the extension. Removing a domain updates its associated blocking rules. Uninstalling removes the extension's browser storage and rules; it does not delete files you previously exported. Pausing preserves the list for later use.

Site Blocker does not add its own encryption to local browser storage or exported JSON files. Anyone with sufficient access to your browser profile or exported files may be able to read them. Your browser, operating system, and any backups you configure govern the protection of those local files.

External services and support

The Chrome Web Store, GitHub, and the browser itself are separate services with their own privacy practices. Installing or updating through a store, visiting a project link, or contacting the maintainer may involve those services; those actions are separate from the extension's local blocking operation.

If you choose to visit betterextensions.org, your browser makes ordinary website requests. Those visits are separate from the extension's local operation and are covered by the website privacy policy at https://betterextensions.org/privacy/. The extension does not automatically contact this website or send it your block list or tab URLs.

Do not include your browsing history, exported block list, account information, or other personal details in a public support report on any external service.

Changes

This policy will be updated with the applicable extension version if its data practices change. Any new use of user data will be disclosed before it is introduced.
