Your reading.
Your private library.
Privacy policy · Effective September 15, 2026
Free High Quality Web Highlighter keeps your selected quotes, notes and organization on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell or share your browsing information or library. There are no accounts, analytics, ads, trackers, remote code, or paid features.
Before you get started
The first-use welcome explains webpage access and local storage. Before you choose Get started, the extension does not register webpage scripts, read webpage contents, inspect page addresses, or enable its selection menu.
What the extension reads and saves
- When you highlight text, it saves your selected quote, the page title and address, nearby text context, a text-position anchor and a one-way fingerprint of the page text. These help it find the same passage when you return.
- It saves your notes, folders, tags, colors, timestamps and the welcome dismissal in this browser profile's local extension storage. It does not use browser sync.
- On ordinary webpages after setup, it checks the current address for saved highlights. On matching pages it reads visible text locally to restore the saved passages. This temporary page text is not retained as a full-page copy.
- The extension does not record a browsing-history log, monitor form input, or read password fields. Saved source addresses are part of the quotes you deliberately keep.
Permissions
Access to HTTP and HTTPS webpages lets the extension capture selected text and automatically restore highlights on return visits. The scripting permission installs its bundled page code after setup. Context menus add the selection's Highlight command. Storage and unlimitedStorage keep the library locally without Chrome's ordinary storage quota; actual capacity still depends on your device. It does not request browser history, cookies, passwords, clipboard, or file-system access.
Export, links and your control
Markdown and JSON exports are downloaded locally. Exported files contain selected quotes, notes and source addresses, which can be sensitive. Review them before sharing. JSON is a full library backup; Markdown includes only highlights shown by the current filters.
You may edit or delete individual highlights, clear the full library in Library settings, or uninstall the extension to remove its saved data. Downloaded backups remain on your device until you delete them. There is no server copy or account recovery, so keep a backup if your library matters to you.
Opening a source page, project website, support email or optional donation link is a separate action you choose. That destination's own privacy policy applies. Your library is not attached to those requests.
