Website Monitor privacy

Applies to Free High Quality Website Monitor 1.0.0. Effective September 20, 2026.

Your watch list and captured comparisons stay in your browser. Monitoring contacts the websites you choose; the developer does not receive your watches or their contents.

What a website check sends

After you acknowledge network checks and grant access to the selected website, the extension fetches the chosen page to read text matching your selector. These requests omit sign-in cookies and referrers and do not follow redirects. The destination website receives the requested address, ordinary connection information, and browser request headers. Text available only after sign-in or JavaScript execution is not supported.

Local information

The extension stores watch names, addresses, selectors, check intervals, paused or active state, captured text, check results, and up to ten before-and-after changes per watch in local extension storage. It also stores the first-use acknowledgement and notification preference. A temporary page selection can be passed between the toolbar and management page through browser session storage. These records are not synchronized by the extension or uploaded to the developer.

Background checks and notifications

Browser alarms schedule checks while the browser is running. Timing can be delayed by sleep or browser scheduling. Paused watches do not run scheduled checks. Notifications are optional and require browser permission; they may display information about a watch through your operating system. Its notification settings also apply.

Permissions

activeTab and scripting let you choose text on the current webpage after invoking the extension. storage keeps settings and comparisons locally. alarms schedules checks. offscreen provides a hidden local document for parsing fetched HTML without running website scripts or loading page resources. Optional website access is requested only for sites you choose to check. Optional notifications permission is requested when you enable alerts.

Your controls and exports

You can pause or remove watches and revoke website access. Revoking access stops further checks until you explicitly grant it again. Removing a watch removes its local captured history. JSON backups contain watched addresses, selectors, captured text, and history; they remain wherever you save them. Imported watches stay paused and require a fresh preview before activation. Disabling the extension stops its work; removing it clears its extension storage. Previously downloaded backup files are separate.

Developer data use

There are no analytics, advertising identifiers, paid tiers, or data sales. Browser API data is used only to provide the monitoring functions described here, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy and its Limited Use requirements. It is not used for advertising, lending, or credit decisions. Help, review, and donation links contact their destinations only when you select them.

Support

Contact tokens@betterextensions.org. Your email provider and the recipient process what you send so we can respond. Leave private watched addresses and captured content out of support requests. Material policy changes will be included with an extension update.
