Every feature is free. Better Extensions does not collect, receive, track, upload, sell, or share your recordings or browsing activity. There is no advertising, analytics, account system, or remote executable code.

You choose what is captured

The first-use welcome appears before any capture or device access. Recording starts only when you request it and choose a source in your browser’s sharing picker. You can choose a tab, window, or screen. Source audio is included only if your browser and selected source support it and you enable it. Microphone and webcam access are optional and require the browser’s permission. The extension captures only the sources you choose.

The browser displays its own sharing indicator. The recorder also shows recording or paused status, an elapsed timer, and stop controls. Keep the recorder tab open while recording. Pausing stops recording new media but keeps the selected sources connected; stop recording to release the streams.

Local processing and storage

Video composition, audio mixing, encoding, preview, and downloads run locally. Recorded chunks are saved as they become available in the extension’s local IndexedDB database. This avoids keeping an entire long recording in JavaScript memory and allows partial recovery after an interruption. Recent chunks that had not finished saving may be lost. Recovery is not a backup guarantee.

Saved recordings and their technical details, such as duration, dimensions, creation time, and chosen recording options, remain in this browser profile until you delete them, clear the extension’s data, or uninstall it. Browser storage eviction or device failure can remove recordings. Download copies you want to keep. Downloaded files remain wherever your browser saves them and are not deleted by the extension.

Your welcome acknowledgement and recording preferences are stored in local extension settings. The extension does not use browser sync, read your browsing history, or request permanent access to websites. It does not store source page titles, page URLs, or device labels in recording metadata.

Permissions and network access

The storage extension permission remembers your local preferences and acknowledgement. Screen, microphone, and camera sharing use browser-controlled web media permissions when you request them. No website host permissions are requested. The recorder does not contact remote services.

Optional links and contact

External support, privacy, or optional donation links open only when you follow them. Those websites receive the ordinary network request and have their own privacy policies. Donations never unlock recording features.

Limited use

We use data only for this extension's disclosed functions and comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. No user data is sold or used for advertising, lending, or credit decisions.
