Text ExpanderPrivacy, in plain language.
Free High Quality Text Expander by simulationstation helps you replace shortcuts with text you choose. We do not collect your content, run analytics, show ads, sell data, or require an account. All features are free.
Before you get started
The first-use notice explains local access. Until you choose Get started, the extension does not listen to typing events or inspect text fields. Your choice is saved locally as a consent version.
What stays in your browser
- Your template names, shortcuts, template text, folders, expansion setting, and first-use choice are saved using
chrome.storage.local. - After consent, while expansion is enabled, the extension checks text around the caret in eligible web-page input fields when you press Space or Tab. It reads the editor's current text locally to keep the replacement safe, then inserts your chosen template with the browser's editing command.
- Fill-in answers exist temporarily in the current page's memory and are inserted into that page's editor. They are not saved to your template library.
- Date and time tokens use your device's local date and time; no time service is contacted.
Text is not sent to the developer or a server by this extension. There is no typing log or browsing-history log. The website you type into can read and submit text in its own editors, including expanded text, under that website's policies.
Excluded fields
Password, email, telephone, URL, number, date, and other non-text input types are excluded. Known authentication, payment, and identity fields are also excluded by their standard autocomplete attributes or field labels. Those checks cannot identify every custom sensitive field. You can pause expansion before working with private content, and website authors can exclude an editor using data-no-text-expander.
Permissions and website access
Storage keeps your library and settings in this browser profile. A packaged content script on HTTP and HTTPS pages enables shortcut replacement in ordinary text inputs, textareas, and contenteditable areas, including frames. It does not activate content processing before consent. The extension contains all its code and has no remote-code or network-fetch logic.
Import, export, and deletion
Import reads a JSON file you select and merges valid templates into your library. Export saves a JSON file on your device. Exported files can contain sensitive text; sharing or deleting them is your choice. Remove templates or folders in the library. Uninstalling removes extension storage; any files you exported remain until you delete them. Browser profiles and browsers keep separate libraries. Browser or operating-system backups may also retain copies under your settings.
Optional links
The About and donation links open external websites only when you click them. Those websites receive ordinary browser requests under their own privacy policies. Visiting or donating is never required, and the extension does not send your templates or field contents with those links.
Limited use
Local user-data access is used only for the extension's disclosed text-expansion features and follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is not sold, transferred for advertising, or used for lending or credit decisions.
